The comedy in this is quite cheesy and predictable. The costumes the characters wear also show the time period the film is set in, especially character treble as he’s wearing a medieval harlequin suit. The type of buildings also show that they’re obviously in a hot European country.
The deserted town gives the audience the impression of how important is that Tippy gives the money to one of the street performers. The first one is where the two different bands are combined to make one piece, and the second is where the music completely stops, and the only sound you can hear is the gold coin rolling across the ground and falling down the drain, finally dropping down into some water with just the sound of a few birds in the background. This becomes very effective at two particular places. The whole film is based on the music, and so the music (which is Spanish/ Italian) sets the whole tone.
However transition wise, the most noticeable part of the edit is the increase of speed between transitions as the tempo of the music increases.
Long shot and Aerial angle shows the competition between the two one man bands and shows how the girl is going between the two bands.Įditing wise, there’s obviously the creation of the animation. The close up on Tippy also signifies the one tear she has when she loses her coin. Close ups on Tippy’s face are used to view her admiration of the music, but also her look of distress and worry when Tippy is being pressurised to give her coin to one of the one man bands. the size of shadows, was very effective as you had an idea of what time of day it was.Īnd then the darkness at the end is effective as you see the moonlight in the background and the light from the houses reflecting on the sides of the buildings. However, the way they’ve edited the light, e.g. Treble is a sleek and suave street performer with better instruments and “musical weapons” and better music who is determined to get the coin off of Tippy instead of Bass getting the gold coin.Īs this is an animation, there is less to worry about during the creation of the short film. Tippy appears, at first, a naive little girl who is easily distracted, but later reveals herself to be much smarter and more talented thank she led us to believe before. However, the main question that is asked is who the little girl is going to give her gold coins to, and what are the musicians going to do next? These questions are raised through the expressions on the little girls face and the speed and intensity of the music.īass is a street performer with a traditional one man band kit, he is in need of money, but his character appears quite clumsy.
Two one man bands are each competing against each other in a small deserted town to get a little girl to give one of them her gold coin which she was originally going to put into a water fountain, and they try to persuade the young girl through their different types of ‘”impressive” instruments and genres of music.Īs the short film is aimed at young children, not many enigma codes are raised, as the plot has to be relatively simple.
